Are you stuck in a style rut? Perhaps your usual uniform of leggings, an oversized t-shirt and loafers just isn't floating your boat anymore, and you want to change up your look and start experimenting with different trends.

Daily Mail writer Sadie Nicholas was in the same conundrum, having believed that jeans were the perfect item of clothing for every conceivable social situation, but was persuaded to try new things when she contacted personal stylist Nicola Cupples, who said more females are turning away from the androgynous book and towards dresses and high heel pumps.

"Fifteen years ago, it was unthinkable to wear a pair of jeans to a fancy restaurant or upscale party, but then designer jeans became en vogue and suddenly dressing down was the new dressing up," said Nicola.

"Now, women are eager to introduce variety back to their wardrobes and to distinguish between casual and dressy looks."

She advised any of us trying to get out of our style rut to take baby steps when it comes to branching out, starting perhaps with some seven-eights chinos or cigarette pants.

"They’re incredibly flattering due to the front pleats, which break up the area around the hips and thighs, disguising any roundness. Wear them dressed-up with summer sandals and a sleeveless blouse," she suggested.

You could also try the on-trend paperbag trousers, which feature a gathered waist into which you can tuck a 50s-style top, such as the one shown here by My1stWish.
